I have been two Prague twice now, and both times due to weather my trip has been cut short. I’ve found myself rushing through this city and all of its mystery in less than a day, before having to move on to my next destination. This, however, has not stopped me from trying to enjoy Prague for all that it has — and if you find yourself in this city with for even just an evening, I thought this guide might be just what you need.
We took this quick walk (just over two miles) from Prague Castle to Old Town on the one evening we had in the city. We started at the castle and opted not to do a tour as our daylight was fast fading, but took a stroll around the grounds, popped into the cathedral and then decided to head back down the hill.
Our next stop was the Lennon Wall, which I’ll admit was not as inspiring as I thought it might be. However, I do think it is a neat stop off as it is on the way to the town center and does have a lot of sweet and funny messages along with some stronger political statements. We then tried to make our way as quickly as possible to the Charles Bridge before the sun completely set, but the winter skies were against us. This was probably the most crowded area of Prague both times we visited but still well worth the trip and if you’re particularly spirited and have an extra morning, head out for sunrise when crowds are diminished.
We then walked through the winding paths of old town, down some maybe sketchy alleys until we were greeted by Prague’s Christmas Market. This market is one of the most scenic markets that I have been to, the surrounding architecture looks like it is out of a story book, and it is definitely not to be missed if you have the chance.
We ended our walk at Wenceslas Square, where another portion of the Christmas Market was happening, but is also a bigger shopping street and capped at the end by the National Museum, which is a gorgeous building featuring both Czech and other global exhibits. Overall we really enjoyed what Prague could offer us on our brief stint in the city, but hope that one day we will be back for longer than 12 hours! If you have visited what is something we shouldn’t miss on our next trip?
Bon Voyage!
